Greater Manchester Community Renewables (GMCR) develops and operates community-owned renewable energy projects across Greater Manchester. We’ve installed solar panels on the roofs of three schools in Salford and a community centre in Partington. Not only does this help the environment, but we also help our partners save money on their energy bills, inspire children to learn about energy and climate change, and fund eco-friendly projects from our surplus profits.

GMCR gives ordinary people in Greater Manchester the chance to tackle climate change and help their community at the same time. The Big Clean Community Switch does the same thing. By switching to a clean energy supplier you could save hundreds on your bills as well as helping GMCR fund our project to put solar panels on local schools.
The costs of clean energy have fallen rapidly in recent years. Moving to a tariff that includes 100% renewable electricity doesn’t mean bigger bills – in fact, most people will save money by switching.
‘Clean energy’ means power generated from the elements – sun, wind, water (rivers, tides or wave power) and biofuels (gas released by rotting food and agricultural waste). Unlike dirty electricity generated by burning fossil fuels (oil, coal and gas), clean energy has little impact in terms of climate change and air pollution.
