Deal now closed
Our exclusive clean energy offer is now closed, but you may be able to save hundreds of pounds a year by switching to clean electricity.

By clicking on the button above, you agree to Big Clean Switch's terms and conditions and to us getting in touch using the details you provide in order to help you switch to clean energy. For more info, see our privacy policy.

What's clean energy?

When we talk about ‘clean energy’ we mean power generated from renewable sources – sun, wind, water (rivers, tides or wave power) and biofuels (usually gas released by rotting food and agricultural waste).* Unlike electricity generated by burning fossil fuels (oil, coal and gas), clean energy has little impact in terms of climate change and air pollution.
*Although none of the suppliers we currently work with source their electricity from nuclear, it does have a much lower carbon footprint than fossil fuels and is sometimes included in definitions of ‘clean energy’. If you’re interested, this report provides more information on the lifecycle impacts of different electricity sources.

How do clean tariffs work?

Picture the National Grid like a bucket full of water.* When you’re on a renewable tariff, your supplier promises to match the amount you take out of the bucket by putting the same amount of clean water in. The more clean water that goes into the bucket (and the less dirty water), the cleaner the bucket, and therefore the Grid, gets.
* In reality of course, water and electricity shouldn’t mix!

Why switch?

The days when you had to pay a huge premium for green tariffs are long gone. Government figures show that more than 60% of households are now guaranteed to save money by switching to the cheapest clean energy suppliers. That’s certainly backed up by the people switching through Big Clean Switch – they’ve saved an average of £243 a year.
