Why switch?

Adnams already sources all the electricity used in its buildings from renewables. Now it wants to help you do the same. That’s because switching to clean electricity doesn’t just help fight air pollution and climate change – it also saves most households money, and supports the UK’s growing renewables industry, which already employs more than 100,000 people.

What is clean energy?

When we talk about ‘clean energy’ we mean power generated from renewable sources – sun, wind, water (rivers, tides or wave power) and biofuels (usually gas released by rotting food and agricultural waste). Unlike electricity generated by burning fossil fuels (oil, coal and gas), clean energy has little impact in terms of climate change and air pollution.

How do clean tariffs work?

Picture the National Grid like a bucket full of water.* When you’re on a renewable tariff, your supplier promises to match the amount you take out of the bucket by putting the same amount of clean water in. The more clean water that goes into the bucket (and the less dirty water), the cleaner the bucket, and therefore the Grid, gets.
* In reality of course, water and electricity shouldn’t mix!

More power from your switch

Whenever anyone switches energy company through a third party like the Big Clean Switch, the supplier pays a commission. This doesn’t affect the price of the tariffs we offer, which are the same price as they are on suppliers’ own websites, and we use our share to help pay for the campaign. Adnams is giving its share – around £19 when you switch both your gas and electricity – to the Adnams Community Trust to support local environmental projects. Even better, Adnams will match the donations from the first 50 switches through this page! Even more reasons to switch!
